Are you tired, burnt out and need a break? Let’s be real, being a mom is HARD! All along the parenting journey moms are busy, tired and at times – simply living in survival mode.
Breaking Point
There was a year where I nearly hit my breaking point. I had 3 kids at three different schools (with very different start and end times) and none drove yet. Two were in sports and the other was in after school clubs. Competitive cheer was in another town and she had practice 3 times per week plus weekend competitions. I spent a minimum of 12-15 hours per week in my car shuttling kids. I know, I counted. That year I quit my one activity; a mom’s bunco group. I couldn’t even get together once per month with other moms. That is when I nearly broke. The one thing I did for myself had to go, and I was actually sad about it.
Moms cannot find time for themselves
In the whirlwind of daily life and the constant juggle of responsibilities, mom’s cannot find time for themselves. There seems to be no time for mom in the world of nurturing others. And when there is down time (ha) it is hard to think straight or get motivated to do something fun. I used to fall asleep everytime we tried to relax and watch a movie. There are many movies my husband says we watched. But I napped through them!
The Myth of Supermom
In a society that glorifies busyness and productivity, moms often feel the pressure to be “Supermom” – the one who can do it all, juggling career, family, and personal life without stressing at all. However, this is unrealistic and detrimental to mental and physical health. The truth is, even Supermom needs time to recharge her superpowers.
The Power of Self-Care
Self-care is often misconstrued as selfishness, especially for moms who prioritize the needs of their families above their own. However, self-care is not about neglecting others; it’s about nurturing oneself so that one can continue to nurture others. Moms simply cannot give endlessly without taking time to replenish their own well-being. Whether it’s spending time enjoying a hobby, taking walks, reading a book or article online or simply saying “no” to additional commitments, self-care empowers moms to prioritize their own needs without guilt.
Breaking the Stigma
Unfortunately, the stigma surrounding rest and self-care often prevents moms from prioritizing their own well-being. Society may label them as lazy or selfish for taking time off, but the truth is, self-care is an act of self-love – and every mom deserves to love herself as much as she loves her family. By taking care of yourself, moms not only set an example for their children but also pave the way for a healthier, happier, and more balanced parenting journey.
You Are Worthy
You have permission to take time for yourself. Remember, you are worthy of rest. You are worthy of self-care. You are worthy of taking a break without feeling guilty. In the business of daily life, don’t forget to prioritize your own well-being. Because when you take care of yourself, you are more productive and positive and can nurture others more effectively. So take that well-deserved break. You’ve earned it!
