Slowing Down to Savor What Matters
Somehow, we blinked… and here we are, less than two weeks away from Christmas.
My to-do list is still longer than my shopping gift list. I haven’t baked the cookies yet and the cards aren’t sent. My house looks more “lived-in” than “holiday ready.”
Can you relate? Maybe this year has been heavier than most, and the joy of Christmas feels a little harder to reach.
If that’s you, —you’re not behind. You’re human.
This week, as we move a little closer to that holy night, I want to gently remind you of this simple truth:
Christmas doesn’t need our perfection. It only needs our presence.
Because the very first Christmas didn’t come wrapped in glitter or tied with a bow.
It came quietly, humbly, in a stable full of straw… and yet it changed everything.
When the Days Feel Full
This season can feel overwhelming for moms—emotionally, mentally, spiritually. We are the memory-makers, the schedule-keepers, the ones who carry the weight of creating “Christmas magic.” But the truth is, your kids don’t need magic.
They need you.
The real you.
The tired you.
The laughing you.
The “let’s slow down and watch a Christmas movie in our pajamas” you.
You don’t need to hustle to make the season special. You just need to show up.
A Moment to Breathe
I’ve been sitting with this verse from Luke this week:
“But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” — Luke 2:19
Mary slowed down enough to notice what God was doing right in front of her. She let herself treasure the moment. What if this week, we do the same?
What if you gave yourself permission to:
Sit with a cup of cocoa before tackling the next task
Light a candle and breathe deeply for thirty seconds
Read a short Advent verse with your kids
Let something go—yes, really—and choose rest instead
Choose presence over pressure
You’re Not Failing—You’re Faithful
Maybe you feel stretched thin. Maybe December didn’t go as planned. But hear this:
God never asked you to create the perfect Christmas. He invited you to experience His perfect love.
He is with you in the chaos. He is with you in the quiet moments you manage to carve out. He is with you in every imperfect detail.
And sometimes the most meaningful Christmases aren’t the prettiest—they’re the most honest.
A Simple Challenge for This Week
Before Christmas arrives, take one intentional moment each day to pause. Whisper a prayer, notice a blessing or treasure something in your heart, just like Mary did. Let the peace of Christ settle where the stress has been sitting.
