There are 2 times of year that are especially exhausting for moms; the Christmas Holiday season and the end of school year/graduation season. Here we are in the midst of it all and it is Mother’s Day. That is great and all but we still have so much to do for the day. I really want a day off, don’t you?
Let’s be real, being a mom is HARD! All along the parenting journey moms are busy, tired and at times – simply living in survival mode. But amidst all the chaos, take time to appreciate the small moments.
Don’t Beat Yourself Up
I remember a time when we were new to the town, my husband was out of town for work and I was really sick with pneumonia. I am still not sure how my kids got to school and back those 2 days but somehow they must have gotten themselves to the bus stop and back each day. I think they ate cereal for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 2 days straight. After my husband returned and I was better I was horrified that it happened at all. Moms need to not beat themselves up so much and not be afraid to ask for help. We are human after all!
How Do We Get Through It?
In the whirlwind of daily life and the constant juggle of responsibilities, mom’s cannot find time for themselves. There seems to be no time for mom in the world of nurturing others. And when there is down time (ha) it is hard to think straight or get motivated to do something productive, relaxing or fun.
Find Time for Yourself
I used to fall asleep every time I slowed down. Whenever I would stop to sit for a moment I would start to doze off. If I was playing on the floor with the kids I could fall asleep for a quick minute. When we tried to relax and watch a movie, I would fall asleep (no, I do not have narcolepsy!). There are many movies my husband says we watched. But I slept through them!
You Are Worthy
You have permission to take time for yourself. Remember, you are worthy of rest. You are worthy of self-care. You are worthy of taking a break without feeling guilty. In the business of daily life, don’t forget to prioritize your own well-being. Because when you take care of yourself, you are more productive and positive and can nurture others more effectively.
So take that well-deserved break. You’ve earned it!
