My faithful friend and I often talk about God. She is really good about pointing out all the little things God has done in her life. Me on the other hand. Well let’s just say that I need to work on that a bit!
The Big Things
Let’s be real, we often pray for big things. God help me get that job I want. God help my child get through their friendship troubles. God bring someone into my son’s life so they are not lonely anymore. God help me with my financial problems. We ask God to help us with our big problems without realizing He is helping us all along the way.
Too Busy
We often are too busy to notice the little things in life. Between work deadlines, family obligations, and the endless stream of notifications on our phones, it’s easy to feel like we’re caught in a cycle of busyness. Yet, even in the chaos, God’s love is all around us. These subtle reminders of God’s presence often come not in grand gestures but in the small things.
Our Purpose
Every day that God wakes us up is an example of the little things. This means we are still working towards the purpose and gifts He has given us. It shows us that He isn’t finished with us yet! Our journey and purpose are still in process.
God’s Protection
God protects us when we don’t even realize it. Remember my blog about my kid’s car trouble in the middle of nowhere Wyoming? Here is a link in case you missed it. We have heard about the disease/cancer detection that almost did not happen due to a practically-missed appointment. These are examples of big ways He protects us, but he works in the small ways too. For example, the gossip that is going around that never reaches your ears or the coworker that is trying to sabotage you but your boss, instead, sees the honest and hard work that you do. Maybe you left for work late and just missed a car accident. Sometimes we will never know all the ways God protects us.
Connecting to God
Prayer is our most powerful connection to God. It is how we express our thanks, make our hopes known, and pray for others. He answers yes, no and sometimes wait. God gives us instructions and sometimes he is silent. Sometimes God provides us with an answer in the most surprising ways. No matter what, He always answers, and we need to look for those answers every day. In issues big and small, He will often nudge our hearts and draw our attention in the right direction.
God Guides Us
We make a thousand little decisions every day. These include everything from deciding whether we will do our job well or whether or not to drop our plans to help someone else. Sometimes, we have to determine whether an opportunity is right for us and if we should follow a particular path. In these moments, God is guiding us. We need to stop, take a breath and pay attention. How do we feel in our hearts? How do we feel in our gut? We need to be still and listen to that small voice we know so well. Listen to Him whispering to our hearts about what choices are right for us. Pay attention to the signs He sends us. This is God guiding us with the little things so we can endure the big things. He wants us to be our best selves. When we are our best, we can be present for others.
Share
Being present for others means sharing God’s love and goodness. This can be anything from bringing your coworker her favorite coffee or chatting with the lonely person at the grocery store. A lot of times, it’s the little things that mean so much. Many are worse off than us who need to see our light shining in the world every day. And don’t you want to shine a light for others?
