Get Fitter and Exercise More

Isn’t it interesting that they have to do with weight, health and being fit? I am currently working 2 jobs and know firsthand how difficult it can be to find time to do these things. Here is what I am sneaking in to be healthier.

  1. I order my groceries and pick them up. This helps me spend less money and avoid impulse buying. There is no extra fee to pick up. If I am desperate, I do pay to have them delivered.
  2. I make a food plan for the week. Here is a simple one to get you started.
  3. Whether at work or the store, I park far away from the door so I get a few more steps in.
  4. I get up 30 minutes early to walk the dog and listen to music or play a podcast while I am walking the dog. I try to find something uplifting and inspirational so my day start off positive.
  5. During my work breaks I walk and pray for 10 quick minutes. Often times this is just up and down the stairs.

5 Day Food Plan Mon – Fri

This works for kids taking a lunch and adults eating on the run. These are quick and healthy and can be packed in a lunch sack with an ice block.

Breakfast:

It is very important for me to eat protein at breakfast time to keep my energy up. This may not work for everyone but I cannot do sweets or carbs for breakfast. They make me crash around 9:30.

  1. Make an Egg Casserole on Sunday and eat 3 days (M/W/F) during the week recipe here
  2. Yogurt with berries and granola. Eat a few pieces of turkey or ham separately or a handful of nuts for protein
  3. Instant grits or oatmeal and a few pieces of turkey or ham

Lunch:

  1. Pasta Salad recipe here
  2. Sandwiches
  3. Veggies and hummus
  4. Yogurt, nuts and an apple
  5. Chicken Caesar tortilla wrap recipe here

Dinner:

  1. Pork sliders and carrots
I buy the mini potato buns and the ready-made shredded BBQ pork. It takes about 10 minutes to prepare at home.
  2. Rotisserie Chicken, mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli
I used to make everything from scratch but time no longer allows. I pick up the chicken on the way home from work and buy the bob’s mashed potatoes already made. I buy broccoli and steam it at home. Time to prepare is only 15 minutes.
  3. Chicken tortilla soup recipe here
  4. Pot stickers and steamed rice
I buy frozen potstickers at the grocery store. They take about 20 minutes to cook.
  5. Chili with cornbread and a side salad
