Family traditions are more than just activities we repeat—they’re tiny anchors in a fast-moving world. They remind us where we belong, who we are, and who we’re becoming together. In a season of life where schedules are full, emotions run high, and days blur into each other, traditions create pockets of comfort and predictability. They weave meaning into the ordinary and build a sense of community within your home that lasts long after the moment has passed.
Some traditions make us laugh. Some help us slow down. Others become stories our children will tell someday to their own families. And all of them, in their own way, knit our hearts closer.
One of my favorite fall traditions is something simple we started when my three daughters were still in elementary school—our Fall Scavenger Hunt. It began one crisp afternoon with nothing more than a few bags in hand and a desire to enjoy the season together. We wandered through the neighborhood and local parks, looking for beautiful natural treasures: vibrant leaves, pine cones, acorns, and anything else God sprinkled along our path.
When we got home, we’d spread everything out on the table like little explorers showing off our discoveries. We talked about the colors, textures, and shapes we loved most. Sometimes the girls turned their finds into crafts—leaf rubbings, garlands, centerpieces, or pine-cone critters that decorated our home all season long.
Those girls are older now, but here’s the beautiful thing: we still go looking. Maybe not with little bags or tiny hands anymore, but with the same sense of wonder. Fall still invites us to pause, breathe in God’s artistry, and notice the small things He uses to brighten our days.
And because this tradition has meant so much to us, I want to share it with you. Below is a free Fall Scavenger Hunt list—simple, fun, and perfect for making memories with your own family.
May it bring connection, laughter, and a little extra magic to your autumn days.
Enjoy—and happy hunting!
