You’ve probably heard the term God sightings—those little moments where something ordinary suddenly feels extraordinary, where you sense God’s presence in a way you can’t quite explain. Maybe you’ve experienced one and didn’t realize it at the time. Maybe you’re still wondering what it even looks like.
For me, my recent surgery day became a series of unmistakable God moments—two divine interventions and one angel in disguise.
An Elevator Encounter
The night before surgery, I barely slept. Fear has a way of stealing rest, doesn’t it? By the time my husband and I stepped into the hospital elevator, my nerves were buzzing. We hadn’t even reached the surgical floor before an older gentleman joined us. With a kind smile, he asked, “So which one of you is having surgery today?”
“That would be me,” I replied, trying to sound braver than I felt.
He asked what kind of procedure I was having, and when I explained it was a full sinus surgery along with a septum repair, his face softened with recognition. “I had that done four years ago,” he said. “It changed my life. You’re going to feel so much better.”
Then he shared a few encouraging tips, wished me well, and stepped off the elevator as quickly as he’d appeared.
Just like that—peace washed over me. I call him the angel.
A Gentle Interruption of Fear
Next came the anesthesiologist. I hadn’t planned on telling anyone about the bad reaction I had as a teenager during a past surgery, but he asked questions with such care that the memory surfaced. I shared my fear, half embarrassed and half relieved to say it out loud.
He didn’t dismiss it. He listened. Really listened.
Then he explained how much anesthesia has changed and assured me that I was safe, that I wasn’t going to experience that reaction again. His patience and calm demeanor unraveled the anxiety I’d carried for years. That reassurance? That was God working through a skilled and compassionate doctor.
A Perfectly Timed Presence
And finally, the sweetest surprise of the day—my daughter. She works at a medical facility, but not this one. Yet on that exact day, she was assigned to float to this very hospital. She had never worked there before, and she hasn’t worked there since.
Coincidence? No. That was God…
…placing the right people in the right place at the right time.
She sat with my husband while I was in recovery, offering comfort and support that meant more than she knows.
Look for Your Own God Sightings
As you move through your days this month, take a moment to reflect on the “coincidental” encounters you’ve had lately. The unexpected encouragement. The perfect timing. The stranger who offered a word you didn’t even know you needed.
Maybe—just maybe—those weren’t coincidences at all.
Maybe they were your own God sightings.
