Devotional: Building a Home That Builds Them Up

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” – Proverbs 22:6 (NIV)

A new school year is like a blank notebook — fresh, full of possibilities, and waiting to be filled with hope. As parents, we play a bigger role in our children’s education than we often realize. Yes, teachers and schools do the academics; but home is where their hearts are shaped, their priorities are learned, and their faith is rooted.

When we create an atmosphere of peace, order, and love in our homes, we’re not just setting them up for better grades — we’re teaching them how to approach life. Our calendars show them what’s important. Our reading habits inspire curiosity. Our prayers remind them that they are never alone.

Even when we can’t be with them in the classroom, God is. The most valuable lesson we can pass on is that their Heavenly Father is always near, ready to guide, strengthen, and comfort them through every challenge. Click HERE for 5 steps to teach your children to pray.

This school year, let’s be intentional not only with our schedules and spaces, but with our spiritual influence. Click Here for 9 prayers to pray for our children.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the gift of a new school year and the fresh opportunities it brings. Help me create a home filled with peace, encouragement, and order, so my children can thrive both academically and spiritually. Give me wisdom to know when to teach, when to listen, and when to simply pray. Cover my children with Your protection and presence each day. May they feel Your nearness in every challenge and joy. And may our family grow closer to You and to each other in the year ahead.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
