Dad’s can be tough to buy for. They seem to have everything. And the things they do not have are expensive. Today I share 3 unique ideas that don’t break the bank but show you put some thought into his gift.
To me, the perfect gift shows you thought about the other person. Personalization is key. For example, I’d rather know you thought about me because you bought my favorite candy bar than receive a $1000 gift you bought on a whim because you didn’t know what else to get. Gifts should not be meaningless or mindless. We ought to be purposeful about the way we give gifts. No one needs meaningless clutter in their lives.
Cribbage Game
If your dad likes cards or games and it is time for something new this is the gift he needs. Two to four people can play so you can share the experience.
I found a company that hand makes and customizes them. This gift shows you were thinking of him. They have a great variety of boards including state maps, points of interest, national parks, military and patriotic, and they can even customize a board for you. Do you like lighthouses, flowers or animals? They can make it for you!
If you are not familiar with cribbage let me give you the quick rundown. The standard 52-card pack is used. The goal is to be the first player to score 121 points. (Some games are to 61 points.) Players earn points during play and for making various card combinations. This is basically a more complex rummy or poker game with a board that you keep score on.

Snack Basket
If you are low on money and need a good gift idea, put a snack basket together. I like to do some sort of theme to help me stay focused on what to buy. For example, get a bag or basket that shows the theme. Sometimes you can get a basket at the dollar store and paint it or put stickers all over it that represent his hobby. Often times I find stickers for fishing, golf or family memories at the dollar stores. They even have small, inexpensive snacks likes nuts, chips or beef jerky.
Hobby Gift
Think about dad’s hobbies or the way he spends his free time. Does he like to fish? Purchase or make new lures or flies. How about a golf dad? He could always use a set of golf balls. Is dad an avid bird watcher? How about camera accessories, binoculars, or a bird book? Just notice what your dad likes and get creative.
Most importantly spend time with Dad or at least give him a call. After all, they do put up with us!
